Law and theology in the Covenant Code

Abstract

<jats:p>The paper considers the relationship between law and theology within the Covenant Code. The first part of the discussion reviews the influence of the "divine law" hypotheses of Alt and Noth, on contemporary scholarship. Particular reference is made to the consequences which Weinfeld draws from this hypothesis, for his view of the secularisation process in the Deuteronomic code.</jats:p>
